Career Summary Bob Drury is a Senior Manager of BSG's Distribution, Logistics, & IT Services in our end-to-end Supply Chain Management practice. He has more than thirty-five years experience in
retail logistics, distribution, food manufacturing and information technology management, with a proven track record as a industry thought leader, strategist, and turn around manager.
Experience
Prior to his retirement, Bob served as Senior Vice President for Logistics, Manufacturing, & Information Technology for Schnuck Markets, a major self distributing Midwest retailer. In this position, he was responsible for strategic planning, innovation and delivery of a broad array of services in support of retail operations. These duties included direct responsibility for all warehouse operations, private fleet management, internal manufacturing of a full line of dairy and bakery products, and delivery of all corporate, support facility, and store level information technology services.
Highlights of his IT work included an end to end re- engineering of all financial, merchandising, and point of sale systems based on open systems architecture, implementation of real time Engineered Standards and Interactive Voice Response systems to improve productivity and accuracy in warehouse operations, and an industry first, cell phone based GPS tracking of the distribution fleet. In 1995, Schnuck Markets was recognized by Computer World Magazine as a Premier 100 Leader in Internet Technology for the development of one of the first internet based, home delivery systems in the US Retail Grocery industry.
From a logistics perspective, Bob was responsible for the design and implementation of a multi-commodity, multi-temperature, point of sale driven, paperless, store order and delivery system, that increased the frequency of store service, cut store order lead times in half, and minimized back room inventories while reducing the number of transport miles needed to provide the service by over 15%. In addition, he managed the successful outsourcing of two major warehouse operations.
Prior to joining Schnuck Markets, Bob was Chief Information Officer at Pet Incorporated, a global, multi billion dollar packaged food manufacturer. For innovation in using the Electronic Data Interchange Standards as a corporate data model for systems development and software package integration, Pet Incorporated was honored as a Premier 100 Information Technology Leader by Computer World in 1990.
Bob is also an Adjunct Professor in the School of Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis, MO, where he lectures on End-to-End Supply Chain Management. He has also served as Chairman Emeritus of the Center for the Study of Data Processing at the same university. In addition, he also helped found the Consortium for Supply Chain Management Studies at the John Cook School of Business at St. Louis University.
Bob’s industry background includes a seat on the Board of Governors of the Uniform Code Council, Director of Efficient Consumer Response for the Grocery Manufacturers of America (GMA), membership on the Food Marketing Institute AMIS Committee, and membership on Information Technology Committee of GMA.
