Louis Mathis

- Lou is a Senior Consultant in BSG's
Store Operations practice. He has spent
is entire business career in the retail
industry, and is a recognized expert in
Brookshire Grocery Company, he rose from working as
an associate in the stores, to executive positions in
store and field operations and corporate
merchandising in the store support center.
Experience
Lou, at 20 years of age, was the youngest store
manager in Brookshire’s history, and after a
distinguished store management career, he was
appointed Director of Merchandising and charged with
creating and establishing the company’s first
merchandising department. Later as Vice President of
Merchandising, Mr. Mathis created the Company’s first
private label program, pricing strategy and
merchandising display program and held responsibility
for the Company’s space management, store formats,
in-store merchandising and inventory control
initiatives.
Lou returned to store operations as Senior Vice
President/Division Manager with responsibility for
directing all the activities of one of the Company’s
major operating divisions with 80 stores, covering four
states. During his tenure, his division led the
company in terms of profit and growth for 14 of 16
years.
His final position at Brookshire was as Senior Vice
President for Strategic Initiatives, where he directed
the development of the first banner positioning
statements for the Company’s two major banners, led
the creation and implementation of a new “Fresh”
concept store, and directed the redesign of the
Company’s pharmacy operations and fuel marketing
initiatives for all stores.
Lou has served on a number of industry advisory
boards and committees and remains active in the
industry, providing industry expertise and practical
consulting advice to his clients.
